Yes. We offer dedicated dust extraction hoods for both grinding and cutting applications with our Hilti angle grinders. They are compatible with approved Hilti vacuum cleaners for effective dust control and compliance with a wide range of safety standards. Find dedicated dust hoods on the specific product page of your angle grinder.
The right size depends on your application and the type of work you need to perform. Smaller grinders (around 4.5"–5") are typically easier to handle and better suited for light cutting, grinding and work in tight or hard-to-reach areas. Larger grinders (7"–9") offer greater cutting depth and power, making them more suitable for heavy-duty applications such as cutting thicker materials or working on larger surfaces.
Hilti offers angle grinders in a range of sizes, from compact models for precision work to more powerful tools for demanding cutting and grinding tasks.
The correct speed depends on the application, the material, and the type of disc being used. For cutting applications, angle grinders typically operate at higher speeds, while lower speeds are often preferred for tasks such as polishing or working with more delicate or heat-sensitive materials.
Always use a speed setting that does not exceed the disc’s maximum rated RPM and the requirements of your application. Where available, variable speed settings can help improve control and achieve more consistent results across different tasks.
Key safety features to look for in an angle grinder include a dead man’s switch (also known as paddle switch), which stops the tool when released, and a fast-acting disc brake to quickly halt the disc after switch-off. Electronic safety systems such as active torque control can help reduce the risk of kickback by shutting down the motor if the disc jams.
Select Hilti angle grinders offer added protection with 3D Active Torque Control (ATC) which protects against kickback in any direction.
Many Hilti angle grinders combine these features with additional systems such as soft start and overload protection to improve control and help protect both the user and the tool. Ergonomic design and low vibration can also contribute to safer handling during extended use.
Many Hilti angle grinders are equipped with a dead man’s switch, often designed as a paddle switch, to improve safety during operation. The switch requires continuous pressure to keep the tool running and automatically shuts off the motor when released. On select Hilti models, SensTech provides a touch-activated dead-man’s function instead of a mechanical paddle switch.
This helps reduce the risk of uncontrolled tool operation if the user loses grip or control of the grinder. Availability of this feature depends on the specific model, so always check the product specifications of your tool.
Using a vacuum for metal cutting is generally not recommended. Cutting metal produces hot sparks and sharp particles that can damage the vacuum and create potential safety risks.
Hilti dust extraction systems are designed primarily for applications such as cutting and grinding concrete or masonry, where they help control fine airborne dust. Always check the instructions for your specific grinder, accessory and vacuum before use.
Notes
(1) This 20-2-1 Warranty modifies only the “WARRANTY” provision of Hilti’s General Terms & Conditions of Sale for Hilti-brand tools, replacing the standard 12-month product warranty. All other Terms and Conditions, including the service warranty, exclusions, disclaimers of implied warranties, and limitations of liability, remain unchanged. This is a professional warranty for tools sold for commercial and professional use and does not create additional consumer rights. Coverage applies only to Hilti-branded tool bodies and excludes batteries, chargers, components, accessories, and consumables. Customers’ statutory warranty rights remain unaffected.
(2) Exclusions apply. Products excluded from the 20-year coverage are covered only under the warranty stated in the General Terms and Conditions of Sale. Excluded products include: [grinders, SD screwdrivers, gas saws, WSR corded tools, UD/UH tools, certain hydraulic and powder actuated components, batteries, and combo kit accessories].
(3) Wear and tear coverage excludes damage due to abuse or use outside the operator’s manual. The following consumable items are excluded and are the customer’s responsibility: pistons, buffers, and spring clips for powder-actuated tools; pull-cord assemblies and filters for gas saws; filters for vacuums; and hydraulic jaws, blades, and dies for hydraulic tools. Fully excluded from wear and tear coverage: grinders, SD 4500, SD 2500, gas saws, WSR corded tools, and UD and UH tools. Covered for one (1) year only: DX 860 and DX 9. Covered for two (2) years or 200 hours of usage, whichever comes first: wall saw head, remote control, E-box, and wire saw power unit and control box.
(4) The one-day repair turnaround begins when the tool is received at a Hilti Tool Service Center (TSC). Eligibility requires pre-approval of the Repair Cost Limit (RCL); repairs authorized below the RCL or requiring a quotation are not eligible. The program is limited to five tools per company per day per TSC and applies only to tools received through Hilti-approved carriers. Delays in payment authorization or force majeure events void the guarantee. Excluded products include total stations, optical devices, detection tools, wall saws, wire saws, and HAT 28. Out-of-warranty tools qualify only with RCL pre-approval. The one-day-or-free program may be discontinued at any time. If Hilti does not meet the turnaround requirement, the customer’s exclusive remedy is a free repair, including parts, labor, and shipping. Hilti is not liable for damages or losses caused by late delivery.
