Mastering Subframing in Rainscreen Facades -Balancing Performance, Sustainability, and Durability – Structural Strand Part 2

Mastering Subframing in Rainscreen Facades -Balancing Performance, Sustainability, and Durability – Structural Strand Part 2

A capable bracket or rail does not, on its own, establish the performance of the assembled rainscreen support system; that performance depends on how its components, connections, and supporting materials work together. Building on the load-path principles introduced in Part 1, this session investigates how load distribution, eccentricity, deformation, and instability affect rails and brackets, and why fastener capacity or substrate limitations can govern a design. Participants will also examine how corrosion, material compatibility, and vulnerable connection details influence durability, linking practical examples to the checks and supporting evidence needed to evaluate strength, stiffness, and long-term performance. The Structural Strand of the Performance Knot brings these considerations into harmony with thermal efficiency and actual installation conditions, helping architects and consultants assess the proposed assembly rather than rely on isolated component capacities.
