During a building fire, flames and smoke travel through gaps created by penetrations and joints on floor and wall assemblies. Passive fire protection systems help restore the integrity of these assemblies to allow time for safe egress and to reduce the risk of facility damage. But is there a connection between the systems used and a building's overall performance? Could these passive fire protection systems help reduce the spread of airborne disease in healthcare buildings, or impact cooling costs in a data center?
