Why does the proximity to concrete edge effect the bond strength for HILTI anchors?

I'm utilizing PROFIS engineering software for anchor design, examining two scenarios: one with the anchor set well within a slab, and another with it positioned at the slab's edge. While I anticipate concrete breakout issues in the latter case, I'm also observing a reduction in bond strength, which I find puzzling. Can you explain how proximity to the concrete edge affects bond strength for these anchors?"

Hi Garry,

The projected area of influence (ANa) and the modification factor for edge effects (Ψed,Na) may be altered when edge distance is reduced, thus reducing overall bond strength for an anchor group. Information related to how PROFIS Engineering evaluates ANa may be found on page 32 of the PROFIS Engineering design guide, while information related to Ψed,Na may be found on page 37.
