When specified minimum edge distance cannot be achieved

Approaches to calculate anchor capacity when specified minimum edge distance is not achievable?
Anchorage to concrete masonry is similar to anchorage to concrete (slight modifications) described within ACI 318-14 Chapter 17...at least that is my understanding. ACI 318-14 Section 17.7.4 provides guidance for situations where edge distances are limited and allows the designer to consider a reduced anchor diameter. Is there a similar methodology for concrete masonry applications? Or how should one consider such a situation?

Hi Jonathan,

For information on the most up to date AC58 code for anchorages into masonry, please refer to Hilti's Masonry Design Guide. The decision to use a different size diameter for potentially smaller minimum edge distance requirements would be up to the Engineer of Record for the project. In order to determine the best anchor for an application, we recommend utilizing Hilti's PROFIS Engineering software.

Ashley
