What assumptions/calculations are made when selecting anchor reinforcement in HILTI?

What assumptions/calculations are made when selecting anchor reinforcement in HILTI?

When I select that I am using anchor reinforcement for my anchor design, are there any assumptions about what kind of reinforcement I am using? For example if I select shear anchor reinforcement, what does HILTI assume for what # bar and what method of reinforcement (hairpin) are in my design? Are there any calculations or references I can look at to ensure that the reinforcement I have in my design actually protects against breakout?

Hi Will,

For concrete breakout in shear, the modification factor for cracked or uncracked concrete conditions may be increased when supplementary edge reinforcement is present. This applies when the reinforcement is of a No. 4 bar or greater as per ACI 318-14 Section 17.5.2.7. For more information, see the PROFIS Engineering Design Guide here.

Best,
Emily
