I'm working on a lot of projects that have recently begun to include Aeroflex EPDM insulation for copper pipes.
Two requests:
- Immediate: We have W-L-1001 in our approved drawings, but will need a similar UL detail that includes EPDM insulation. Can you advise on the right UL detail to use?
- Later: In the firestop selector, can we get an option to select EPDM as an insulation material?

Thank you for reaching out to the Hilti Fire Protection Design Team to assist you with your firestop engineering needs.
We have a couple UL listed systems (e.g. W-L-5387 & W-L-8141) that has EPDM insulation through gypsum wall assembly. All of which use 5/8" depth FS-ONE Max only to firestop these EPDM insulated penetrations.
If any of these systems do not work for you, we will have to evaluate your condition through an Engineering Judgment, which will be a custom detail showing your exact application with the firestop components required to maintain the stated ratings.
