I have a hotel under construction. The contractor elected to have the new building panelized. Through the show drawing process we asked that the blocking at the top of wall be solid 2x's. During our last site visit it looks as though the panel supplier install cut pieces of TJI floor joist, one piece on each side of the wall. Part of the 2x, what would be the top and bottom cords, stick out beyond the wall framing below which does not allow us to run the gwb to bottom of deck now. Is it possible to place a 1" piece of mineral wool between the infilled TFI top and bottom cord so that the mineral wool is flush with the wood and then spray the entire top of wall right down to the dbl top plate? This would allow us to terminate the gwb at the dbl top plate. Please advise. Thank you
Hello,
It seems like it would occur above where the gypsum ceiling is supposed to be installed directly below the joists. As long the gypsum ceiling will be below that portion, we can firestop around that for smoke seal purpose only. The actual firestopping will occur where the gypsum ceiling will meet the gypsum wall. Am I understanding the situation correctly? If there will not be any gypsum ceiling below the joists, that means the deck will be unrated and we cannot do firestopping when there is a non-rated assembly involved.

Tyler Thomas
