Tested Listed Systems for rated wall to non-rated roof

Tested Listed Systems for rated wall to non-rated roof

I am curious to why there are no "off the shelf" tested listed systems for interior rated walls to non-rated roof decking. This is a fairly common situation where a fire barrier/wall will extend to a non-rated metal fluted deck roof. My assumption is that since the adjacent roof is not-rated, it would not be covered under 715.1 details and would require verbiage to state the fire rating would be dependant on the decking. OR this is covered under continuity Head-of-wall joint under 707.9 which just states that the material shall be installed to not dislodge or impair during building movement. My question would be, can I use a dynamic head of wall detail that calls for a concrete deck as an inspection guide for approval of a continuity head of joint or does this specifically require a listed system under CJ-D-xxxx?
Thanks!

Good afternoon Patrick,

CJ-D-0004 is a listed system for a rated Gypsum Wall Assembly to a Non-Rated Horizontal Assembly. The joint between a rated wall assembly and a non-rated roof assembly would be a Continuity Head-of-Wall joint per ASTM E 2837. In general an HW-D-XXXX Head-of -Wall system for a concrete over metal deck assembly can be used as the basis of design for an Engineering Judgement for a Non-rated Steel Roof Assembly but a CJ-D-XXXX system would be the only listed systems.

If there is not currently a listed system we may be able to address your application through an Engineering Judgment which will be a custom detail showing your exact application with the firestop components required to maintain the stated ratings.

We are proud to announce the launch of the HILTI CONSTRUCTION PLATFORM (HCP), our company’s new engineering service website. This platform will be the home for all of your Fire Protection Design needs. Instead of emailing a PDF form for a request, the platform enables you to create new Engineering Judgment (EJ) requests, submit revisions to previously completed EJs or connect with an FPE on a question. HCP also enables you to track the status of your request.

You can find more information on how to access this new platform here: http://www.hilti.com/ej (US) or http://www.hilti.ca/ej (Canada.) If you have any questions or require assistance navigating the platform, please call Customer Service for help at 1-800-879-8000 (US) or 1-800-363-4458 (Canada.)

Along with HCP, Hilti is excited to announce our new mobile app for all your firestop needs: Hilti Firestop Selector. Using the Firestop Selector app gives you easy access to the Hilti Fire Protection Design Team from the jobsite, on the road, or in the office to request a new EJ, an EJ Revision, or a Question anytime, anywhere. You can download the app using the appropriate link below.

Are you able to utilize a castle cut drywall condition in instead of the safing, similar to the System No. HW-D0077 in a non-rated deck condition, 1 hour rated wall. Please advise.
