I am designing attachment for a plate to be anchored to the side of a reinforced concrete beam. I'm having issues with Concrete edge breakout failure. The concrete beam has continuous bottom bar and stirrup reinforcement, so I have selected the appropriate edge reinforcement parameter within the base material tab, however it does not appear to have any effect on the edge breakout capacity. What am I missing here?
Hi James,
Information on the presence of supplementary reinforcement within PROFIS Engineering can be found on page 201 of the PROFIS Engineering Design Guide. If you have further questions or concerns, please reach out to hnatechnicalservices@hilti.com.

HILTI software has limited options of concrete reinforcement when calculating the edge breakout strength. The heavy continuous bars and stirrups in beam should be strengthening the concrete more. Maybe you can find the maximum capacity of concrete edge breakout based on the software limitations and then add the beam rebar steel shear strength to that. Summarizing these two shall be higher than your actual load.
