Are there any Hilti or IBC special inspection requirements or tests when the installer drills/cores through existing rebar in a mat (raft) foundation at the location of a post install adhesive anchor?
Hi Robert,
Special inspections requirements can be found in each anchor’s ESR documentation and can be referenced for the specific anchor that you are installing. Typically, if rebar is hit, the first and preferred solution is to move the fastening point. Only if this is not possible, the cutting of rebar should be considered. However, this is outside the scope of Hilti’s testing, therefore, the decision to continue installation of the anchor upon hitting rebar is up to the Engineer of Record (EOR). If the EOR decides to move ahead with drilling through rebar and installing the anchor, engineers typically consider onsite testing after the anchor is installed to ensure the anchors meet the requirements of the project.
