While doing a baseplate design in profis, shear lug was designed to be used in the design due to the high shear values. However, Profis's biggest shear lug is a 12" wide and 1" thick shear lug and this did not meet the needs of demand. For a higher capacity, a higher effective bearing area is required. The effective bearing area is the width of the shear lug multiplied by 2 times the thickness of the shear lug. Unless I am wrong, ACI does not state any limitations for width or thickness of a shear lug so is there a reason why profis has a limitation on it?
Hi Matthew,
Within PROFIS Engineering, there is the option to do custom shear lug sizes depending on your design (see document attached on how to this).
Step 1: After selecting “use a shear lug” under the “Profiles” tab on the left-hand side of the screen, select the size of the shear lug.
Step 2: Once the “select shear lug size” menu pops up, scroll all the way to the top and there will be an option to do a custom shear lug size.
