Putty pad requirements
I have installed putty pads on all boxes in 1 hr rated walls. Do I need to install them on boxes in a smoke partition?

Hello,
The putty pad product is indented for conditions in which you need to restore the rating of a fire-resistance rated wall assembly for an electrical box penetration condition. This is per the CLIV document attached to this response. For smoke partition walls, where a fire-resistance rating is not required this may not be required and may be able to be substituted for a sealant to limit air transfer through the assembly. I would check with you local code official or authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) for what is required in your area.
