I have a client wanting to use the KWIK HUS EZ anchors for CMU anchoring. The loads are extremely small ~500lb for shear and 175lb for tension so I was looking at using the 3/8", but the minimum the software will let me use is 1/2". What's the reason behind this? I looked in the ESR and couldn't figure out why I can't use 3/8".
Hi Ashley,
Are you anchoring into the top of CMU wall? PROFIS references data for use of the KH-EZ into CMU from ESR-3056. Per Table 2 of ESR-3056, the data for anchorage into the top of wall starts at an anchor diameter of ½”. There is no test data available for any smaller diameters for that condition.
For further questions, please contact hnatechnicalservices@hilti.com. Ultimately, all design decisions (including anchor selection) are at the discretion of the Engineer of Record (EOR) on the project.
Regards,
Katelyn
Yes, I am anchoring to the top of the wall. Thank you for the insight!
