PROFIS Engineering, Steel Failure with Lever Arm

PROFIS Engineering, Steel Failure with Lever Arm

When doing an anchor bolt calculation to ACI 318-19, PE adds a shear failure mode that is not from ACI: Steel Failure with Lever Arm. We recognize the concept as a Eurocode thing, but it's not a part of the US code and it's controlling the design, giving shear unity checks over four times more than the corresponding ACI value. It also wrecks the tension/shear interaction check. Is there a way to turn that off? It's jeopardizing whether we can submit PROFIS outputs on our projects or not. Thank you very much!

Hi Bruce,

There is not an option to turn off Steel Failure with Lever Arm within PROFIS Engineering. It would be up to your engineering judgement to take that failure mode out of your consideration. If you decide to remove the failure mode from consideration, you could look at the second highest utilization for tension or shear and recalculate the interaction equation by hand. Additional information relating to steel failure mode with grouting can be found on page 312 of Hilti's PROFIS Engineering Design Guide.

Ashley
