Trying to understand why this anchor arrangement fails when the edge distance is anything less than infinite. Surely it should pass if edge distance is extreme, like 10,000mm?

Hi Mike,

The PROFIS Engineering software is limited to a strict interpretation of the ACI 318-14 Chapter 17 anchoring-to-concrete provisions. Thus, the software is unable to determine on its own if a large edge distance should be considered finite or infinite. If an edge distance is defined in the software, PROFIS Engineering will evaluate the appropriate ACI 318-14 provisions accordingly. Whether or not to consider an edge distance large enough to be considered infinite is typically based on the engineer’s interpretation of the ACI 318-14 provisions.
