When analyzing an anchor bolt group in Profis, regardless of the anchor bolt pattern and edge distance spacing, Profis seems to apply all of the shear to the front bolts. This seems overly conservative and is not per ACI 318. For example, with a current analysis, (2 bolts, shear parallel to bolt spacing) the bolt spacing is 13" and the edge distance is 3.5". Per ACI 318, case 1 and case 2 should be checked per R17.5.2.1b. However, case 3 is being checked where all of the load is on the front anchor which is not required per ACI 318 which gives the appearance of a failure. Will this be updated at any point or will an option be given to note that anchors are welded to a common plate or to have the shear distributed per ACI 318?
Hi Andrew,
PROFIS Engineering will always use a ca1 value corresponding to the distance from the anchor row nearest the fixed edge where concrete breakout is assumed to occur. This is a conservative assumption. More information related to this discussion can be found beginning on page 191 of Hilti's PROFIS Engineering Design Guide for ACI 318-19.
