Hello, we specified 12" horizontal embedment of a #3 post-installed rebar into an existing 4.5" slab. The reinforcement is 1.75" clear from the top of the slab. A peer reviewer questioned if this embedment would result in spalling or breakout. Do you recommend a minimum edge distance for post-installed rebar?

The minimum edge distance requirements will be dependent upon the design method that is being used. If the design is based on anchor theory, please refer to ACI 318-19 Chapter 17. If the design is based on rebar development theory, please refer to ACI 318-19 Chapter 25. Minimum edge distance requirements can also be found in the respective ESR for the anchor that you will be installing, Section 4.1.9 for anchor theory and Section 4.2.3 for rebar development theory.
