Post-installed Adhesives - Testing Data for Shear Loads

Do you have any testing data that shows the adhesive HY 200 or HY500 or any Hilti adhesive for post-installed anchors filling the annular gap between anchors and steel fixture with diameter required by Hilti in Table 38 for HY-200 (and any other such tables for other adhesives) will certainly provide equal shear load distribution among all anchors in a group of anchors? My question is not limited to any (1) kind of loads. It applies to any static, dynamic ( including but not limited to seismic or cyclical loads in equipment), fatigue etc. I could not find anything in the ESR reports to that effect so could you please provide such testing data? Lastly the steel fixture holes recommended by Hilti is 1/8 greater for thorugh-set for HY-200 in the table 38 (for some its 3/16 or 1/4 greater) or 1/8 greater in the installation data for Hilti Profis (For upto 7/8 diameter, it is 1/8 greater in the Profis reports). Will following these required hole sizes (along with all your other installation requirements) either in the tables or Hilti Profis provide equal load sharing for shear among anchors in a group of anchors?

Hi Pritesh,

Hilti does not have any testing using our adhesives to fill the annular gap between the top of the concrete and the bottom of the steel plate. If you would like to model a standoff condition, PROFIS Engineering offers three different options: standoff with clamping, standoff without clamping, and standoff with grouting.

The fixture hole size within the ESR for the respective anchoring product and the Instructions for Use should be followed. Hilti does not have any testing if the fixture hole size deviates from our published technical information. It is important to follow all instructions specified in the Instructions for Use when installing a Hilti anchoring system to ensure that the anchoring system was properly installed.

Hi Ashely I think I didn't frame my question effectively because what you mentioned about annular space is not what I had in mind. This is what I am planning to do: Use (4) Post-installed 7/8 anchors with Hilti Hy 200 or Hilti Hy 500 such that the hole size in the steel base plate will be 1 in. dia, which is exactly what Hilti Profis instructs to use for throughset condition. Now with (4) anchors installed and 40 kips of pure shear load acting on this anchor group, will each of (4) anchors take 10 kips of load i.e. equal shear distribution? The reason I am asking is the steel base plate hole size is 1/8 bigger than the anchor diamater (slightly oversized). But the small region between the anchor and the steel hole (throughout the thickness of the base plate i.e. top of the concrete to top of steel base plate) will be filled with Hilti adhesive. So how does the adhesive work in giving equal shear loads to each of the anchor as implied in Hilti Profis calculations for an anchor group.
