Is there a minimum distance specified in the listed firestop system that must be maintained beyond the point of firestopping for through-penetrations when transitioning between dissimilar materials (for example, from a copper pipe to low-density polyethylene (LDPE))?
Hello Raedul,
Thank you for reaching out to the Hilti Fire Protection Design Team to assist you with your firestop engineering needs. We have F-A-2154 that addresses the transition between a metallic pipe to non-metallic pipe, however, your question is more suited for the AHJ, inspector or building official. They should be the ones to will tell you where firestopping is required, whether it be at the transition point or at the rated assembly. We can only tell you how properly firestop a specific application.
Additionally, we are proud to announce the launch of the HILTI CONSTRUCTION PLATFORM (HCP), our company’s new engineering service website. This platform will be the home for all of your Fire Protection Design needs, including the Hilti Firestop Selector. The Firestop Selector is an intuitive search function that allows you to search through existing systems to find one that works for you.
You can find more information on how to access this new platform online here: hilti.com/ej (US) or hilti.ca/ej (Canada.) If you have any questions or require assistance navigating the platform, please call Customer Service for help at 1-800-879-8000 (US) or 1-800-363-4458 (Canada.)
If you would like to download the mobile version of the Hilti Firestop Selector, you can do so on the Google Play Store or Apple Store.
Thank you,
Anthony Nguyen
