We manufacture steel deck. One of our offerings, cellular composite deck, is fabricated from (2) gaged steel profiles. For the specific project I'm working on, the two steels are 18ga (0.0478") and 20ga (0.0359")...the combined thickness is 0.0837. With manufacturing tolerances accounting for slight gap between sheets, the combined measured thickness may be more like 0.1" . Can this be attached with powder actuated fasteners? I presume so if pins with integrated washer is utilized. Would gaps between the sheets influence the integrity of the connection...e.g. difficulty seating the head, etc.? Thanks, Marty
Hi Marty,
When installing powder actuated through multiple layers of steel decking, the primary concern is ensuring that the material is properly clamped. It is also important to ensure that the fastener is installed properly. Information on fastener inspection can be found in Section 3.5.1.2.4 of Hilti’s Direct Fastening Product Technical Guide.
