Multi-wythe brick thicknesses in Profis Engineering, why only 13inches?

Multi-wythe brick thicknesses in Profis Engineering, why only 13inches?

When using Multi-wythe brick in Profis it goes by default to 13in thick only and it doesn't allow to edit that. I have a building with only two wythes hence the thickess is only 8". How could I modify it? The ESR does allow the two-wythe thickness.

BRICK,multi-wythe,is it possible to change the wall thickness for multi-wythe brick or hollow brick wall?,anchor brick

Hi Jerson,

At this time, hollow brick wall thickness cannot be adjusted in PROFIS Engineering (PE). The data used in PROFIS Engineering for hollow unreinforced multiwythe (URM) brick comes from the Hilti Anchor Fastening Technical Guide and not from ESR-4143. Per footnote 2 for Table 16 on page 190, two wythes of brick with the permitted embedment depth is permissible but the tension and shear values are the same as if three wythes with its corresponding embedment depth was used. Thus even though PROFIS Engineering does not currently allow for a change in wythe thickness, it is not impacting capacities; the wythe thickness in the software is illustrative.

Cordially,
Emily

Hi does this apply to solid brick as well? Please clarify.

Hi Jerson,

PROIFS Engineering pulls data for anchoring HIT-HY 270 into multi-wythe solid brick wall from Table 15 on page 193 of the Hilti Anchor Fastening Technical Guide. Footnote 2 under Table 15 states: the wall must have a minimum thickness of 13 inches made up of 3 wythes of brick.

Best,
Emily
