Metal stud attachment to beam with spray on Fire proofing
Is it persmissable to attach a metal stud directly to a beam without a clip and then fireproof the wide flange and the metal stud together? We cannot find a detail that allows this attachment. The wall under the beam is not fire rated.

Hello Chadwick, with the wall being unrated this would not be a firestopping application. I would recommend verifying that this is acceptable with your onsite engineer, AHJ, or another acceptable body. We could give you a non rated solution however the issue will be how to attach the gypsum boards to the stud once the fireproofing as been applied.
