In one of projects, we have 12" thick hollow CMU wall that will be used to supports pipes. I am thinking to use 3/4" diameter stainless steel anchor rod with Hilti HIT HY-270 adhesive anchoring system. I have scanned through Hilti product catalogue and I do not see any information on the capacity beyond 1/2" diameter anchor rod. I have tried to use Hilti software but the software does calculation for 8" nominal thick wall with limitation on 1/2" diameter. Please guide me how to use 12" thickness for wall and how to increase anchor rod diameter to 0.75 inch.
Hi Rajesh,
Hilti's supportive testing for HIT-HY 270 into hollow CMU is based on masonry units conforming to ASTM C90 with a nominal size of 8" x 8" x 16", per Section 3.4 of ESR-4143. For installations into CMU units with different dimensions, it will fall to engineering judgement to evaluate the anchorage and determine if all application requirements are met.
Similarly, Hilti does not have any testing for HIT-HY 270 with 3/4" threaded rods into hollow CMU. The decision to use a 3/4" diameter threaded rod installed into hollow CMU would also be up to the engineering judgement of the
Engineer of Record.
