In previous technical guides for masonry anchorage, specifically the KWIK HUS-EZ fasteners, you supplied a table 33 which gave the allowable loads installed in end-of-wall or vertical members of wall openings. Is this something that is being tested or are there still capacities for these anchors to be installed in end-of-wall conditions and where might one find that information in the new masonry anchor design guide 2023 that was published that discusses the changes to AC58?
Hello,
The width of a typical CMU block is 7-5/8”. For installation into the face of grout-filled CMU, the minimum edge distances for the KH-EZ installed into the face of grout-filled CMU is 4”. Therefore, if you installed an anchor directly into the middle of the block, the minimum edge distance requirements would be violated. Since these edge distances are violated, there is no testing for side of wall applications. Technical information related to our LRFD data for masonry can be found in the Masonry Design Guide.

Ashley
Hi Laura,
Hilti's supportive testing is based on CMU units conforming to ASTM C90 with a nominal size of 8" x 8" x 16". For CMU units with different dimensions, it will be up to engineering judgement to evaluate anchor performance.

Hello,
Unfortunately, the availability of data for the KH-EZ installed into the end of grout-filled CMU walls is unknown.
