Is there any information available on embedding light gauge steel within the SFRM for a column or beam? There seem to be several UL details, and details from GWB manufacturers (similar to the detail attached) which have zee clips, or light gauge studs installed on or near columns/beams before SFRM is applied in order to later attach GWB or other finish materials near the columns/beams with SFRM. I am looking for information on any ways that the light gauge members or clips may need to be specified so that they are compatible with the SFRM and any limits on the amount of light guage steel embedded within SFRM.
Good afternoon Blue,
Unfortunately Hilti does not manufacture an SFRM product or design fire protection for steel members using SFRM and would not be comment on acceptable imbeds outside of what is shown in listed firestop systems. Your best option would likely be to reach out to one of the SFRM manufacturers, such as W.R. Grace or Isolatek, for information on what is acceptable in terms of imbeds within the SFRM product.
Thanks,
Rudy Jarvis
