I am looking to anchor a ledger board to a CMU wall for a small deck. The load carrying capacity of the ledger anchored to the CMUs needs to be 2500lb. As I understand it, the HIT-HY 270 anchors need to be a minimum of 4 inches from any edge of the CMU would be rated at 80% of shear load capacity up to the critical distance of 12" (I am looking at the 3/8" rod size). If I were to mount these anchors at 12" from the edge (right at the critical distance), I would need three of them to reach the desired shear load, correct?
Hi Mike,
Unfortunately, Hilti is able to assist with designing the capacity of the anchors. I am unable to tell you how many anchors you would need to meet your design requirements, nor am I able to comment on spacing, edge distance, etc. If you need assistance understanding how to read Hilti's tables, please reach out at 877-749-6337 or hnatechnicalservices@hilti.com and one of Hilti's engineers will be happy to assist. If you are looking for feedback on your design, Hilti recommends consulting a third-party structural engineer or using PROFIS Engineering.
Regards,
Dani
To clarify, the CMU is hollow.
