Larger diameter KWIK HUS-EZ in hollowcore planks

Followed the holllowcore plank guide here for anchors in tension in hollowcore precast: https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=cd3849d38aab3323749a0ef3185ca2bbaf727b1e07f2859fc9de3a8eaccc1b2aJmltdHM9MTc3MTQ1OTIwMA&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=4&fclid=3f4e06e2-099e-68e8-14b6-10a00845692c&psq=hilti+precast+plank&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly9maWxlcy1hc2suaGlsdGkuY29tL29yaWdpbmFsLzR1LzR1Y2FncXBpeWsucGRm
Owner wants to use the KWIK HUS-EZ anchors, but need 1/2" diameter just to fill the hole in the mounting plate. Can I use the 3/8" diameter capacity or is the thread pitch (or some other limiting factor) going to prevent me from substituting the larger size?

Hi Ben,

Hilti's testing for the KH-EZ Screw anchors into hollow core concrete panels is limited to 1/4" and 3/8" per the technical bulletin here. Using a larger diameter than what is published may damage the base material upon installation, and is outside the scope of Hilti's testing. The decision to proceed with a 1/2" diameter KH-EZ would ultimately be an engineering judgement at the discretion of the Engineer of Record (EOR) on the project.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to hnatechnicalservices@hilti.com.

Best,

Mia
