KWIK Bolt TZ cut off projection
Is it OK to cut off KB TZ projection and just weld to anchor plate with puddle weld for a flush top finish? Thanks!

Hi Vivian,
Hilti does not recommend cutting anchors. Additionally, with an expansion anchor you would not be able to cut below the nut and washer (flush to the concrete) since it would eliminate the installation torque required to properly set these anchors.
Hilti's anchors are not manufactured or tested for weldability. Typically, engineers avoid welding on or near anchors for the following reasons:
- The mechanical properties of the anchor could be changed resulting in reduced load capacity.
- The corrosion resistance properties of the anchor could be reduced during the welding process.
- The chemical composition of the welding area could be altered and negatively affect performance.
- For adhesive anchors, welding could negatively affect the adhesive bond due to the conduction of heat through the anchoring element.
- Welding does not comply with the approvals of either mechanical or adhesive anchors.
- Welding could remove the length identification mark on the anchor.
- Welding operations on anchors under load is extremely dangerous.
- The combination of different influence factors has not been tested (welding different materials, welding methods, welding quality, etc.).
The engineer on the project will be responsible for deciding if welding is acceptable for their application.
Regards,
Dani
