Kwik Bolt 1 vs. Kwik Bolt 3 into grout filed CMU
I am seeing discrepancies when checking the capacities of KB1 and KB3 into the face of grout filled CMU walls. The KB1 is supposed to be replacing the KB3 with equal or better capacities per the substitution letter. But if you look at the shear values for 3/4" KB1 in grout filled CMU you have 1370 lb. The same value for 3/4" KB3 with comparable embedment is 3305 lb. Can you please explain why there is such a drastic drop in capacity for this anchor?

Hi Sam,
Per the substitution letter, the carbon steel KB1 is equal to or better than the carbon steel KB3 with limited exceptions. This application could be one of the limited exceptions. For further assistance, please reach out to hnatechnicalservices@hilti.com.
