I'm working on a existing building from the 1960's with Robertson Sec. 3 deck (similar deck profile as current 'B' deck). We're wanting to use the KH-EZ I for hanging light mechanical loads but the ICC report for these anchors notes that the minimum width of the bottom flute is 3 7/8". The historic Robertson and current 'B' deck both don't have sufficient width to allow anchors into the bottom flute. We have 2 5/8" fill above the upper flute, so it seemed like installation of a 1/4" anchor with 1 5/8" nominal embed would be possible, but Profis is not allowing this condition. Is the KH-EZ I acceptable for installation in the upper flute for decks with flute widths less than 3 7/8"?
Hi Matt,
Unfortunately, for installations of the ¼” KH-EZ I into the soffit of concrete over metal deck the minimum deck width of the flute is 3-7/8”. This requirement can be found on page 17 of ESR-3027. The Engineer of Record for the project could use engineering judgement or on-site testing to account for variability in performance.
Regards,
Ashley
