I was designing anchorage at top of a wall, subjected to shear along its longitudinal axis. It is a simple connection, with 3 anchors @ center of wall, spacing of 6" OC. For static design, 5/8" dia. KB-TZ2 anchors with 4" eff. embed work well (D/C = 42%). But when I switch to "seismic design", I don't have the option of choosing KB-TZ2 anchors - though the ICC-ESR report states it is approved for seismic application. (I've been using ACI 318-19 as the design code). See attached file used for design.
Hi Paulos,
When seismic design is first selected in a PROFIS Engineering file, the software defaults to the ACI 318-19 Section 17.2.3.4.3a provision for seismic tension design. If an anchor of interest does not meet the ductility requirements of Section 17.2.3.4.3a, the anchor will be removed from the anchor selection menu within PROFIS Engineering, in your case, the KB-TZ2 is considered non-ductile so it is not option for seismic tension design provision a. However, the anchor of interest may become available in the anchor selection menu when selecting one of the other seismic tension design provisions within PROFIS Engineering.
Regards,
Ashley
Hi Paulos,
The KB-TZ2 does have testing and approvals for seismic applications. Since the KB-TZ2 is considered non-ductile, it is not an option for seismic tension design provision A. However, it may become available in the anchor selection menu when one of the below seismic tension provisions are selected:
- 17.2.3.4.3b - for yielding occurring at the fixture
- 17.2.3.4.3c - for designing with a non-yielding attachment
- 17.2.3.4.3d - using a seismic overstrength factor applied to the factored loads
If you are still having issues locating where to change these provisions, please give us a call at 877-749-6337 or email us at hnatechnicalservices@hilti.com.
