Our inspectors require a UL detail for all penetrations made at angles to walls. Specifically joists and beams.

Thank you for reaching out to the Hilti Fire Protection Design Team to assist you with your firestop engineering
needs. Please see the highlighted portion of the attached UL Guide Info. The penetration can be installed at any angle so long as the requirements in the UL Guide Info are met. Additionally, we do have two UL systems, WL7188 and WJ7110, that address beam penetrations. However, we do not have any systems for a joist penetration.
As such, we can address your application through an Engineering Judgment which will be a custom detail showing your
exact application with the firestop components required to maintain the stated ratings.
