Is there a critical distance between anchors' end tips installed on both sides of a CMU wall.

Is there a critical distance between anchors' end tips installed on both sides of a CMU wall.

I can find the critical edge distance and critical spacing of anchors/rebars to be installed in CMU walls using HIT-270 product. However, I cannot find the critical distance "if any" for the anchors' end tips installed on both sides of a CMU wall. to clarify my situation, I have a wall that will receive anchors on both faces of the CMU on exact same locations but opposite sides. The CMU thickness is 9-5/8", and the embedment of each 3/8" DIA. anchor is 3-1/2", this leaves approximately 3" spacing between the anchors ends inside the CMU wall. Are there any restrictions for such spacing? and if any, where can I find them in your technical guide?

Hi Yazan,

For two anchors installed in the same location on opposite sides of a CMU wall, each anchor should have at least the minimum masonry thickness requirement without the influence of the opposing anchor. Therefore, the CMU wall would need to have a width equal to twice the minimum masonry thickness requirement, or 10 1/4". Alternatively, you could consider staggering the position of the opposing anchors such that their areas of influence do not overlap and minimum masonry thickness requirements are met. It would also be recommended that the engineer on the project evaluate the wall to ensure it is properly reinforced for such an application.
