Intumescent coating over galvanized protected beams
Can Intumescent coating be used on galvanized steel as long as there is an appropriate primer separating the intumescent from the galvanizing?

Hello Adriana and thank you for utilizing ASK Hilti! Yes. Water- based intumescent application can be used on galvanized steel members as long as an approved primer is placed on the galvanized steel member. Consulting the primer manufacturer for the level of surface preparation is recommended as the galvanized surface may need to be prepared in accordance with a SSPC (Society for Protective Coatings) standard prior to applying the primer to the galvanized steel.
