HY 270 and Threaded Rods in the Face of Hollow CMU; Allowable anchor locations

The Load Capacities listed for Tension and Shear include a reduced capacity if the installation is located in a bed joint. However, Footnote 4, suggests that the anchor is not permitted in mortar joints, flange or cell web. I always thought of a bed joint as being a mortar joint as well. Can you please provide a graphic of a typical CMU wall and show allowable locations (similar as you have shown for Grout Filled CMU)?

Hi Dave,

Footnote 4 of Table 10 on page 184 of the Hilti Anchor Fastening Technical Guide is only applicable to the column titled "installation in the cell". HIT-HY 270 for threaded rods in the face of hollow CMU can be installed in the bed (horizontal) joints as well as into the face shell of CMU walls.

Thank you,
Emily
