Hollow core flange less than 1.125

Hollow core flange less than 1.125

We are using 3/8" diameter KH-EZ anchors into the underside of hollow core slabs. In the Hilti Anchors for Attachments to Hollow Core Concrete design aid, the minimum HC flange thickness is shown to be 1.125" and we specified this as the minimum flange thickness for the project. The HC supplier only provided 1" thick flanges. How can we adjust the ultimate shear and tension anchor values for this thinner flange?

Hi Dan,

Per the Hilti Anchors For Attachments to Hollow Core Concrete Panels technical bulletin, the minimum base material thickness for installation of the KH-EZ Screw Anchor into hollow core concrete panels is 1-1/8“. Having a base material thickness of 1“ is outside the scope of Hilti’s testing; therefore, it will ultimately be up to the engineering judgment of the Engineer of Record (EOR) on the project as to how to adjust the shear and tension values published in the bulletin.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to hnatechnicalservices@hilti.com.

Best,

Mia
