ESR-2269 provides allowable tension and shear values for Hilti power-actuated fasteners driven into various base materials. Table 3 provides values for X-U and X-P PAF's driven into normal-weight concrete. Table 5 provides values for X-U and X-P PAF's driven into structural lightweight concrete with or without metal deck. Both of these tables contain a footnote stating that the values shown for the X-P PAF's apply "to fastening of cold-formed steel up to 54 mil thick ..." This footnote, however, does not apply to the X-U PAF's. I am looking at applications where X-U PAF's are being used to fasten cold-formed steel clips angles/track/plates to concrete, and to the underside of concrete filled metal deck. We would like to know if there is a limit on the cold-formed steel material thickness that can be used with the X-U PAF's for the values provided in Tables 3 and 5 to apply.
Similarly, is there a limit on the cold-formed steel material thickness when X-U or XU-15 PAF's are used to fasten cold-formed materials to a steel base material, for the values provided in ESR-2269 Table 2 to apply.
Hi Andrew,
There is no guidance on cold-formed steel thickness limits for the X-U fastener. To achieve the allowable loads, the X-U fastener must achieve the minimum embedment depth into the base material (concrete or steel).
Cheers,
Emily
