Hilti X-U 19 as fastener for metal deck to stuctural steel

I have a project where the contractor wants to use X-U 19 fasteners instead of the X-ENP-19 fasteners due to availability issues with the actual fasteners and the tool. The X-U 19 appears to be suitable for the beam flange thicknesses, so I wanted to see if there would be anything preventing us from approving this change?

Hello,

Fastening through metal deck into a base steel is possible with the X-U pins. Hilti generally recommends the use of the X-ENP 19 or X-HSN 24 decking pins specifically for most decking applications. These pins are engineered specifically to ensure they’re optimized for use of attaching metal deck to base steel structures. The bell shapes, washers, and geometry of these fasteners were designed to ensure the deck is properly fastened and clamped consistently.

The X-ENP 19 and X-HSN 24 pins have a plethora of approvals directly corresponding to their use for fastening metal deck diaphragms, including ICC Evaluation Service Reports, FM Certificates of Complaint and UL Listings. Additionally, deck diaphragm shear data and strength tables are available for these fasteners; while the X-U fasteners data focuses on the strength of individual fastenings.
