Hilti PROFIS software (Anchor spacing)

In Hilti PROFIS, I am setting up a concrete to concrete structural joint design in which I am specifying #6 bars w/ HIT-RE 500 V3 at 6 inch centers but the software is giving me a warning error that reads: "Post-installed rebars are too close to each other (s_min=7.5 in). Please modify the horizontal and/or vertical spacing between rebars."

I am not sure why it is requiring 7.5 inches of spacing. In ACI 318 & your ESR the required spacing is well below that. In your ESR-3814 section 4.2.3 the minimum spacing is 2.75 inches. In table 7 (sheet 15) the minimum anchor spacing is 3.75 inches for concrete breakout. I don't see anywhere else where the anchor spacing is specified to be 7.5 inches. Could you please advise why it is that PROFIS is giving me this warning and not allowing me to use 6 inch spacing for the analysis?

Hi Cesar,

If you have the Hilti methodology selected for rebar design, there a minimum spacing of 7.5 inches. The minimum spacing set by that methodology is 10d (ten times the diameter of the rebar). Additional information can be found in Hilti’s Rebar Design Guide.

Ashley
