HILTI HDI-P TZ Non-Structural Use Warning

Hi, on a recent HILTI HDI-P TZ anchor design for a lintel brace angle attached to 8" precast hollowcore plank, I noticed a warning in the HILTI Profis design results that "this anchor can only be used for the support of non structural elements". This note also appears in the ESR-4236 for those anchors. However, other HILTI documents such as 'HILTI Anchors for Attachments to Hollow Core Concrete Panels' and 'HILTI North American Product Technical Guide Vol. 2' don't make any mention of being for non-structural use.

If loads are below HILTI allowable capacities and the HILTI Profis design passes, can the anchor be used, or what constitutes "non-structural" use?

Hi Joshua,

Thank you for reaching out. Per ESR-4236, HDI-P TZ anchors are not intended to be used to support structural elements. In typical building-code practice, “non-structural components” are elements that do not participate in the building’s primary gravity or lateral-force-resisting system (e.g., MEP supports, cable trays, light fixtures, etc.). The final decision on what is considered a “non-structural” application is ultimately up to the Engineer of Record.

Regards,
Katelyn
