Hammer Drilling Vs Core Drilling with Roughening Adhesive Capacity

Can I use the hammer drilling adhesive bond capacity if the contractor would like to core drill a smaller pilot hole and then come back with a properly sized hammer drill to create that condition for better adhesive bonding?

Hi Jake,

For a case like this we have seen customers in the past run two different anchor calculations -- one using hammer drilled holes and one using core drilling -- and use the more conservative results. The decision of what drilling method that should be used for anchor calculations is ultimately up to the engineer of record since there is not specific testing for a partially core drilled and hammer drilled hole.

Cheers,
Emily

We are looking at doing the same thing on a large project to save significant field time. Whom might I speak to in order to execute this properly? Thanks!
