Is this interface considered a head-of-wall joint, and is a listed detail/system required, or can it be treated as part of the rated assemblies without a separate joint detail?

When the gypsum wall meets a gypsum ceiling, this would be considered a head of wall joint. We do not have listed systems for this type of condition; however, we can address your application through an Engineering Judgment, which will be a custom detail showing your exact application with the firestop components required to maintain the stated ratings.
