I'm working on a DSA project in Modesto, CA and I'm looking for an fastener to anchor into an existing 2-1/2" gypsum roof deck. I was planning on utilizing the Hilti KB-TZ2 anchor but the ESR #4266 does not validate the use into gypsum. Do you have any technical reports validating the use of this anchor into gypsum or any other fastener that I could use? Please reply to luis.valtierra@teterae.com

Hilti does not have any testing data regarding the installation of Hilti's KB-TZ2 mechanical anchor or any other anchor type into gypsum roof deck. Depending on the thickness of the gypsum, self-drilling screws may be a consideration. ESR-3891 contains technical data on self-drilling screws used to connect gypsum board materials to steel base materials. Although there has not been specific testing for fastening gypsum to steel, see the attached snippet from Section 4.1 that speaks to screw length and the thickness of the fastened material. Additionally, see footnote 5 below from Table 1 on pages 2 and 3.
