Flush nut minimum
During the installation of the hilti kbtz2 (1/2") wedge anchors. It was noted that the anchor must protrude past the nut a minimum of 1/4". I did not read that information anywhere in the esr 4266 with exception of images in the figures shown. Per AISC there is a flush nut minimum for high strength bolting in the RCSC. Would this apply to the KBTZ2 anchors as well? Please advise.

Hi Michael,
Per the KB-TZ2 Instructions for Use (IFU), Hilti anchors are tested with full thread engagement. Full thread engagement means the threads of the anchor are completely engaged with the threads of the nut. Additionally, the engineer on the project can reference the common resource discussed below:
- Please reference the Research Council on Structural Connections’s (RCSC) “Specification for Structural Joints Using High-Strength Bolts.” Click here to access the specification online. Within the glossary of the specification, the term “sufficient thread engagement” is defined on page 16.2-xi (see below):
- Please note, based on the picture below, there are no threads on the dog point. If the nut is flush with the top of the dog point, it may likely not be fully threaded or fully engaged by the definition above.
