Condition is a non-firerated exterior metal stud assembly with gypsum sheathing by-passing concrete floor slab. As the metal studs are set slightly out from the face of slab edge to allow the gypsum board to by-pass the slab edge, a small void occurs as illustrated by the attached detail, which is shown in red. On the interior of this wall, the 5/8" gypsum board will extend to the deck and be caulked with non-firerated sealant.
In review of IBC 2018 Section 715.1, fire-stopping and/or perimeter joint system is not required per exception 7 as the exterior wall is non-firerated. Is this a correct interpretation or should the void be filled with "material"?
Hi Glen,
Thanks for your firestop request. This is a great question, but we need to look further into the details of the condition. Would you please send an email to USfirestopeng@hilti.com, and we can discuss the condition further more.
Thanks in advance,
