Is there a system for a metal conduit (~1/4" dia.) entering one side of a 16 gauge. metal fire door frame through a 1/2" hole?
Hello Paul, at this time Hilti is not able to support conduits / penetrations through a door frame. Please see below on a quick explanation why we are not able to provide a solution. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to give a us a call at 1 800 879 8000.
Model building codes have prescriptive requirements for handling doors, windows, and the associated framing where a fire protection rating is mandated. These requirements preclude the use of firestop methodologies as a substitute.
One example includes the International Building Code Chapter 7, Section 716: Opening Protectives. The fire protection performance criteria required for opening protectives in this section differs from firestop requirements – a firestop in a 2-Hr fire barrier requires a 2-Hr F-rating whereas a fire door installed in a 2-Hr fire barrier requires only a 1-1/2-Hr assembly rating. Moveover, the test standards used to assess opening protectives are different from those test standards required for firestops.
For instance we cannot provide a UL 1479 application (penetration) here because would not have the the rating we would need. Please see preceding paragraph for more explanation on door frames and walls. Because you are trying to firestop through a door frame we inherently do not have compartmentation through the door frame.
Therefore, because of the above we will not be able to support any penetration or joint through a door frame (rated or non rated).
Thank you,
