Epoxy anchors in green concrete

Epoxy anchors in green concrete

I am aware that Hilti has special requirements when using epoxy anchors in new or "green" concrete. I have a project where we are installing new concrete equipment pads on top of existing "old" concrete. Equipment anchorage will be through the new equipment pad into the existing slab. I assume since we are crediting the existing/cured slab for our embedment the restrictions for using epoxy anchors in green concrete can be ignored because the anchor will be simply passing through and not anchored to the green concrete used to form the equipment pad. Is this correct?

Hi Craig,

Hilti anchor testing is conducted in monolithic slabs only. Thus, Hilti does not have test data available for anchors installed in more than one layer of concrete. However, if you are considering the capacity based upon the embedment within the existing concrete slab, you would be able to treat the new slab as a fixture. There would be some things to consider regarding the “green” concrete, however, such as the cure time of the adhesive and if the adhesive will be loaded prior to the concrete fully curing or not.
