Epoxy anchor in concrete-over-metal-deck (top side)

Hello, do we have any guidance for using an epoxy anchor on the top side of concrete-over-metal-deck? I see we have info for wedge anchors to the underside of concrete-over-metal-deck, but can't find any guidance for the top side. Would the design engineer just design the anchorage as if it was a continuous slab at the upper flute thickness? (in the case of the snippet I attached, 4-1/2"). Or is there something additional that should be considered? thank you.

Hi Stephen,

Anchoring into concrete over metal deck with an adhesive anchor is outside of Hilti's published test data. Anchorage into a concrete slab could be considered if it is determined the concrete slab is thick enough to negate the effects of the metal deck; however, this decision is ultimately an engineering judgement at the discretion of the Engineer of Record (EOR) on the project.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to hnatechnicalservices@hilti.com.

Best,

Mia

OK thank you. kinda the answer i figured. What type of negative effects would the metal deck and lower flutes cause vs. just a slab at the upper flute thickness of 4-1-2"?
