I am adding a plate washer at the embedded end of a bolt to increase the pullout strength of the anchor. Is is possible to analyze this in PROFIS? If so, where is the input for this?
I see a plate or washer section within the anchor tab. What washer is this referring to? How does this input affect the calculation?
Hi Aaron,
The “Plate or Washer” option within PROFIS Engineering can be found under the “Anchor” tab on the left-hand side of the screen when a cast-in place anchor is selected and the design methodology is set as “Rigid” (see snip below).
PROFIS Engineering follows a strict interpretation of ACI 318-19 section 17.6.2.1.3 when the "Plate or Washer" option is toggled. Plate/Washers are only considered for concrete breakout strength of anchors in tension in chapter 17.6.2 of ACI 318-19. Hence the only changes is concrete breakout in your design in PROFIS Engineering.
Please note that the D.5.2.8 refers to the older ACI 318-08, however, this section has since been moved to ACI 318-19 section 17.6.2.1.3. Plate/washers are only included in breakout and not pullout failure. Considerations for more pullout capacity due to additional plate and washer will be at your discretion as the Engineer of Record (EOR) on the project.
